Advice for New Mums

5 September 2018

(as suggested by the members of our online community)

  1. Trust yourself/your intuition. Nobody knows your baby better than you do.
  2. Stay away from Google!
  3. Look after yourself – fill your own cup first!
  4. Imagine what life is like as a newborn – implement “4th trimester” soothing techniques.
  5. The days are long but the years are short. Try to enjoy it.
  6. Watch out for those ‘post-natal’ hormones.
  7. Breastfeeding can hurt.
  8. Sleep. Any moment you can.
  9. Ice your boobs and your bits.
  10. Talk to people about how you’re feeling.
  11. It’s okay to cry.
  12. Don’t have any expectations.
  13. Try not to wish this time away. Find joy in the little things (the smell of their head, their sleep sounds, holding their tiny hand, first smiles etc).
  14. Take one day, or one phase, at a time.
  15. Stay close with your partner. They need you too.
  16. You may feel like you’ve lost your old self, but don’t despair, you will find her again.
  17. Forget about your wobbly bits. Your body has created life.
  18. Relinquish all control/perfectionism.
  19. Remember, you’re not alone, and
  20. You are enough.
